Endless options for a LGBT night out in Mexico City

There is a huge variety of LGBT nightlife in Mexico City, from working class bars to trendy dance clubs.
You won't be spoiled for options. There are two areas where there are non-stop bars and clubs: Calle Amberes in the Zona Rosa and
Calle Republica de Cuba in the historic center. But you'll also find options in many other parts of the city.
Options specifically for women are a bit more limited but there are a few lesbian specific places and unlike what you
might expect if you're used to the US or Europe, most places are a mix of men and women. See our page for recommendations for lesbians

In the Zona Rosa you'll find bars and clubs with a young crowd and a mix of locals and foreigners. The neighborhood is actually called Juárez but the area to the east of Insurgentes is also called thge Zona Rosa and this is where the heart of the LGBT scene is. Note that there Zona Rosa is also home to many straight bars and clubs, especially on Calle Genova whereas Amberes is almost entirely gay. There are also concentrations of gay places around Niza and Londres. There is another grouping near Florencia and Londres including the iconic El Taller open since 1986. To the east of Insurgentes, the Juárez neighborhood is more residential and makes a good central spot to stay but it also has a number of nightlife options.
Looking down República de Cuba from Eje Central, the street is lined with LGBT flags and bars. At night it would be full of people too.
In the historic center the heart of the action is on Republica de Cuba street from Eje Central Lazaro Cardenas east for about 4 blocks. Note that while the Zona Rosa is full of people all day and night, this part of the historic center is more of a nighttime scene, Cuba street especially is quite dead during the day. The area is grittier but also has a fun local character. The crowd is more Mexican and also tends to be quite young. Some of the bars here (like Marrakech and El Oeste) have also been around since the mid-80s.
In other neighborhoods like Roma, Condesa and Polanco you'll also find options but they are more spread out so check our listings below rather than just wandering around. The oldest still operating gay bar in Mexico City is actually Spartacus (since 1984) to the east of the airport but it is actually in the state of Mexico so it is listed on our pages for Mexico State where you'll also find many more options.
Finally there are a ton of roaming parties that take place on weekly or monthly schedules or at irregular times. Some are at the same venues each time and others roam between venues. Check our popup section below for these events.
And a quick word about drag shows: Mexico City has some amazing performers and you'll find drag shows at many of the bars listed below. But there are also a few places that are performance venues foremost and you'll find them listed on the culture page.

El Taller Bar Gay by Cabaré-Tito
Bar and show club located in the basement. Part of the Cabaré-Tito group but the "El Taller" name has been around too long so they kept that too! Super cheap beer 6 pm to 9 pm so people tend to order a bucket of beers and then stay into the night. Sunday night is men only and there is a live XXX show; the rest of the week is mixed men and women. Another gay bar El Almacen is located in the same building on the main floor. Tom's Leather Bar
Two level bar attracts a more macho crowd (albeit infrequently men in leather) and a good mix of young and older, local and foreign. DJs play an incredible variety of music and video with everything from porn on the big screens to musical theater. Naked gogo boys on the bar. Varying cover charge often comes with several beer tickets. Tuesday can be the busiest day as it was where they pioneered the promotion of a cover with many beer tickets (was 6 now 5). If you wnat to have a blast and you really want to have the best of the gay night life in mexico city DO NOT GO TO ZONA ROSA (PINK ZONE) it's awfull over there thats one of the most advertised gaysite but really its no cool, there's no good looking people at all I don't want to be rude at all but the only thing you'll find in the bars of PINK ZONE are BEANERS!!! Now if you want to have fun have go to the nicest gay places and meet HANDOSOME and NICE people ( the best of mexico ) go to this night clubs ENVY AV.Las Palmas 500 col. Lomas de Chapultepec or this new bar calles 55 also in AV. Las Palmas 555 col Lomas de Chapultepec. These are places that are not advertised in gay mag or website they are kind of gay exclusive in mexico, wich means you'll meat the best hotties of the city. The reason I write to all of you Its beacause the fist time I came to Mexico city the places people recomended me where at Zona Rosa and really it was AWFULL it was like being in the getto of New York (but with ugly gays around, almost looking like ladies LOL ) SO IF YOU WANT TO HAVE A BLAST WHILE YOU ARE HERE AND MEET GOOD LOOKIN INTERESTING PEOP follow my advise REGARDS AND BON VOYAGE !!!!

Getting home
One thing that surprised me when I went out in Mexico City is that some of the scenes happen earlier than you'd expect. I went past a club in the early evening just to know where it was and found it was already packed. Found out that it was because most locals need to use the Metro to get home and it closes not long after 11pm. Since Mexico City is such a huge sprawling place and people live all over keep that in mind! You may be staying in a convenient hotel in Zona Rosa but the locals probably have a lot further to go.
